If you have an NCMC account with a full email address, you may be able to get Office 365 for free on your own device. If you don't have a full NCMC account, you can still take advantage of the free office apps (with limited features) Microsoft provides online by signing up for their free version of Office 365
here. The Desktop version of Office 365 is only available to full-time faculty, staff, and current students. Retirees, adjunct faculty, and alumni students are limited to the Web version of Office 365, which can be found within the NCMC portal. To install Office on your own device, follow the steps below:
- Open a web browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.).
- Navigate to https://www.office.com.
- If it doesn't sign you in automatically, sign into the M365 Office portal using your North Central email and portal password.
- Near the top right corner, there should be a button that reads "Install Apps" to click on. If you can't find this button, you may need to contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
- Choose "Microsoft 365 apps" from the drop down menu.
- Once it is finished downloading, run the installer. Each operating system will have a slightly different installer, but Microsoft walks you through the steps.
- After the apps are installed, you may need to log into them the first time. If so, use your NCMC email and portal password.
