Print Holds allow you to send a print job from your device that can be released once you are at the physical location of the copier. This allows a more privacy-focused approach with printing confidential documents, as the documents are not printed out until you are ready to pick them up. Another common use for the print holds is to send documents for pickup later when you are off campus and don't need to them to print out until later when you are back on campus.

To use the print holds on campus, first make sure you have installed the correct print hold for your desired location (e.g. Print Hold (Petoskey)). If you need help installing the print hold, follow this Helpdesk article: How do I install a printer with PrinterLogic?

Once the print hold is installed, print just like normal, but be sure to choose the print hold as the printer. This will store the job for release at multiple copiers across campus. When you arrive at a copier connected to the print hold network, you will need to log into the copier to release your job. There are two ways to do this:

    • Using the PrinterLogic app downloaded from the app store on your smartphone, you can scan the QR code (if available) on the copier to access your held documents.
    • On the copier itself, typing in your student/employee ID number in the username field and entering your PIN that you set up with PrinterLogic. Once logged in, choose the PrinterLogic app tile and navigate to your held jobs.

In either case, you will see all your held jobs that are available for release. These jobs can each be selected and then either printed out or deleted. If printed, the job will be sent to the copier and should start printing within just a few seconds.

Some things to note about the print holds:
  • Non-Windows devices only: Jobs sent to the hold are only available to be released at the printer if the device it was sent from is powered on and connected to the network. If the device is not available when at the copier, the job will not appear in the list of available held jobs.
  • If you do not see your sent jobs in the hold queue at the copier, it is possible that you are not logged into PrinterLogic on your device with the correct account. Verify that you are logged into PrinterLogic on your device using your portal account, which should use the format username@ncmich.edu and not ncmich\username.
  • For jobs to be released and printed in color, the job must have been sent to the hold as a color job initially. This also applies to black and white printing.
  • For jobs needing additional finishing options, like stapling or hole punching, the job must have been sent to the hold with those settings initially. There are no option selections when releasing a held job.
